Chicago gets the wind they say,
which causes grief and trouble,
but the kind of wind we get out here
will bend your broccoli double!
Alright, so I'll never be a published poet, but you get the picture of what today was like. The wind was fierce, peeling some tin off one of our shelters, and literally beating the leaves off some of the plants. The cauliflower and broccoli took the brunt of the punishment, and the row cover's whipping action sanded the leaves right off all the squash and pumpkin plants I set out the other day. The lettuce, still trying to shake the chill from the last snow, actually faired very well.
As for the pigs, wind doesn't bother them, in fact hardly anything bothers them except heat, and that only bothers them if they don't have access to water and mud. I was setting out some Lolla lettuce transplants this morning, and I noticed how much the piglets seemed to enjoy running around in the wind, so I ran and grabbed my Flip before they tuckered out. Here's what I saw:
Those pigs are hilarious. Thanks for reading!
